Eggnog recipe

What is eggnog?

Eggnog is a drink made from milk, cream, eggs, sugar and spices. It may also contain alcohol.

The drink is similar to the egg liqueur. It can be enjoyed both hot and cold, similar to the Golden Milk.

Eggnog is popular in Great Britain, Canada and the USA. It is mainly drunk here at Christmas, like the glögg in Sweden.

Select the type of alcohol

Eggnog is usually made with rum, brandy or whisky. A combination of these types of alcohol is also possible. I have used rum in the recipe.

How to make eggnog

Homemade eggnog non-alcoholic

Eggnog can be made with or without alcohol. Simply omit rum from my recipe for the non-alcoholic version.

You can also make one portion without alcohol and one portion with alcohol. This way, your guests can choose one of the two versions themselves.

Season to taste with spices of your choice

You can use sweet spices of your choice for the eggnog recipe, just as you would for the mulled wine. The important thing is not to overdo it with the quantities. I have refined the Christmas drink with vanilla, cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg.

Enjoy yourself or give as a gift

Homemade eggnog is perfect for the Advent season. It tastes and smells like Christmas, just like the speculoos, the honey cookies or the quark stollen.

Enjoy it with your family and friends during the holidays. You can serve it at the Christmas party or the New Year’s Eve party.

The creamy drink is also ideal as a gift, alongside the homemade strawberry liqueur, cornelian cherry liqueur and sloe liqueur. Pour it into a beautiful glass bottle and surprise your loved ones with it.
