You can find a detailed recipe with the exact quantities and step-by-step instructions below.

How to make almond milk

Homemade almond milk instead of store-bought

The homemade almond milk tastes much better than that from the supermarket. This is because it has a high proportion of kernels, giving it a creamy consistency. Industrially produced plant milk, on the other hand, only contains a small amount of almonds and is heavily diluted with water.

The homemade plant-based milk is also healthier than store-bought. It contains no unwanted additives or sweeteners, which are often found in supermarket products. You decide for yourself which ingredients you use to make it. It’s similar with the homemade fruit bars or the hummus.

And finally, it is very easy to make almond milk at home, just like the pistachio milk. So why should you buy any?

Which almonds for the recipe?

You need whole raw almonds to make the plant-based milk at home. They should be unpeeled and contain no additives. Blanched or salted almonds are less suitable for this.

How to use and store almond milk?

The almond milk tastes delicious on its own. You can enjoy it with pastries, for example the wasp nest buns, the tvorog korzhiki or the sweet jam pirog.

The plant-based milk can also be used to make desserts and milkshakes. It also tastes delicious in coffee and muesli, alongside the soy milk and lupin milk.

You can easily replace cow’s milk with the homemade almond milk in baking and cooking recipes.

Store the plant-based milk alternative in a sealable glass bottle in the fridge. It will keep for around 3 to 4 days.

Sweeten or refine with spices

The homemade almond milk tastes mild and delicious even without additional sweetener, similar to the cashew milk. That’s why I haven’t used any sweetener in my recipe. However, if you want your plant-based milk to be slightly sweet, you can add agave syrup, maple syrup or pureed dates.

The almond milk makes a delicious and aromatic drink that you can drink on its own if you spice it up with various spices. For example, add vanilla, cinnamon, cardamom, tonka bean or nutmeg. If you stir in some cocoa powder, like to the hazelnut milk, you get a delicious chocolate drink.

Vegan milk alternative

Use pomace in variety of ways

You can use the pressing residue left over from the production of the almond milk in a variety of ways. You should definitely not dispose of it.

Spread the pomace on a baking tray and leave it to dry. This will give you almond flour that is perfect for baking recipes. For example, you can use it to make the vegan nut cake or the German plum cake.

The pressed residue is also ideal for refining smoothies and muesli. You can also use them to make energy balls.
