How to make oat milk

Homemade oat milk from what type of oats

You can make oat milk from both rolled oats, such as the oatmeal patties or the Anzac Biscuits, and from quick oats. However, the plant-based milk alternative made from quick oats can be more slimy.

Quick recipe without a long soaking time

Unlike the pistachio milk recipe, hazelnut milk recipe or lupin milk recipe, which require you to soak the nuts or seeds for several hours, this oat milk recipe is lightning fast. This is because there is no long soaking time here. You also don’t need to plan any time for cooking, as in the rice milk recipe.

To make the oat milk from rolled oats, simply blend all the ingredients until smooth. Then squeeze it through a cheese cloth. My recipe for homemade coconut milk is just as quick.

If you use rolled oats, you can leave them in water for about 10 minutes. This will soften them a little and make them easier to puree. It is especially helpful if your blender is not very powerful.

How to make oat milk slightly sweet

I have not added any additional sweetener to my oat milk, just like to the cashew milk. However, depending on your taste, you can add a few pitless dates to the oatmeal mixture when blending. Agave syrup and maple syrup are also suitable for sweetening homemade oat milk.

Determine consistency yourself

In the recipe, I have used 100 grams of rolled oats for one liter of water. With these quantities, the plant-based milk is quite creamy, especially if you squeeze the finely pureed oatmeal mixture thoroughly.

For a thinner consistency, you can add a little more water to the milk alternative after straining. If you like the oat milk thicker, use a little more rolled oats for the recipe.
