This mint chocolate chip ice cream is made with fresh peppermint and incredibly aromatic. It contains no egg and no dyes, just like my strawberry yogurt ice cream. Chocolate chips perfectly complement its flavor. To make the peppermint ice cream yourself, you only need four ingredients. Plus, you can make it without an ice cream maker. A detailed mint ice cream recipe with the exact quantities and step-by-step instructions can be found here at the bottom.
Delicious combination
This homemade ice cream combines mint and chocolate. It tastes fresh peppermint, similar to limonana. Chocolate chips combine perfectly with it.
With fresh mint and no dyes
Although this ice cream does not have the bright green color that usually has a mint ice cream from the ice cream parlor or a supermarket, but it also contains no harmful dyes. However, it has no effect on the taste. The same goes for my mango sorbet with basil.
On the contrary – since this mint chocolate chip ice cream is made with fresh mint, just like my peppermint cookies, it really tastes like it. It is heavenly refreshing and aromatic.
What mint for the ice cream?
Use fresh young peppermint leaves for the recipe. It’s best to use freshly picked mint from your own garden or balcony for this, just as you would for the cherry plum jam with mint.
If your mint is flowering by now, its leaves are rather less suitable for the ice cream. Because then they are no longer so juicy and aromatic.
Which chocolate for the mint ice cream?
You can make the mint ice cream with any dark chocolate. Good quality dark chocolate with a high cocoa content is best for this, similar to the zucchini brownies.
I chopped the chocolate into chips myself and mixed it into the ice cream. Alternatively, you can buy chocolate drops for it, just like for the chocolate pear cake and blueberry muffins.
The peppermint ice cream is also delicious without chocolate chips. You can simply omit it from the recipe.
