These delicious mountain lentil fritters taste juicy on the inside and have a crispy top layer. They are vegan, healthy and filling. Plus, you can easily make them yourself with few ingredients and serve them in a versatile way. A detailed vegan mountain lentil fritters recipe with exact quantities and step-by-step instructions can be found here at the bottom.
Spices make it tasty
As for other vegan fritters, for example my oatmeal patties, lentil patties with pardina lentils or kidney bean fritters, spices are the most important thing for these mountain lentil fritters. This is because they provide an intense flavor.
I seasoned the vegan mountain lentil fritters with paprika powder**, cayenne pepper** and black pepper. But other spices of your choice can also be used. Also, experiment with the amount of spices to your taste.
Besides spices, onion and garlic add more flavor to the mountain lentil patties. In addition, you can add fresh or dried herbs to the lentil mixture.
It’s important that you don’t taste the raw lentil mass. Because lentils in uncooked state contain toxins.
Add more binders
Other than mountain lentils themselves, you don’t really need any other binders for this recipe. Just note that this makes the lentil mixture very tender.
Still, it’s easy to shape into flattened fritters. I’ve also never had any problems with turning the vegan mountain lentil patties during frying.
If the lentil mixture is too soft for you, you can add a vegan binding agent. Oatmeal flakes, for example, are very good for this. You can also stir in some flour or cornstarch. Ground flax seeds soaked in a little water are a great egg substitute for vegan fritters, as well as for vegan lentil loaf.
Versatile to serve
You can enjoy the vegan mountain lentil patties very versatile. They taste delicious both warm and cold. However, they only have a crispy crust directly after frying, when they are still warm.
Serve the mountain lentil fritters with a side dish, for example potatoes, noodles, rice, buckwheat, couscous or with a vegetable salad as a main course for lunch or dinner.
With freshly baked whole wheat bread, baguette or wholemeal bread rolls, they are perfect as a snack between meals, as a cold appetizer or to take on the go.
You can also use these mountain lentil patties to make a delicious vegan burger. Form larger burger patties from the lentil mixture instead of small fritters and fry them in vegetable oil. Then use them to top your homemade burger. By the way, it tastes best with homemade hamburger buns.
