I used a 1:1 ratio of orange juice and sugar. This way, the orange syrup tastes quite sweet, but a small amount of it is enough to refine drinks or desserts. In addition, the high sugar content ensures that the syrup has a long shelf life and is slightly thickened in consistency without having to boil it down for a long time.

Depending on your taste, you can reduce the amount of sugar. In this case, the shelf life of the syrup is shortened.

Orange syrup

Ingredients
  

  • 300 ml orange juice freshly squeezed (from approx. 5 oranges)
  • zest of 5 organic oranges
  • 300 g sugar
  • juice of 1 lemon freshly squeezed

Instructions
 

  • Put orange juice, orange zest, sugar and lemon juice in a saucepan.
  • Bring the orange-sugar mixture to a boil, stirring, and simmer for 5 minutes.
  • Pour the orange mixture through a sieve, catch the syrup in a sterilized glass bottle and seal it. Let the orange syrup cool.

Notes

  • Instead of lemon juice, you can use food grade citric acid. Adjust the amount of it to taste.
