Homemade orange syrup as a gift
The homemade orange syrup is ideal for giving as a gift to loved ones. Beautifully packaged, it is a nice sweet surprise from the kitchen for anyone with a sweet tooth. For example, the orange syrup passes perfectly as a Christmas, Easter, Mother’s Day or Valentine’s Day gift.
Without water and with a long shelf life
I made my orange syrup without water, using only orange juice, orange zest, sugar and a little lemon juice for a slightly tart note. If you like it even more tart, you can put in more lemon juice or some citric acid instead.
I used a 1:1 ratio of orange juice and sugar. This way, the orange syrup tastes quite sweet, but a small amount of it is enough to refine drinks or desserts. In addition, the high sugar content ensures that the syrup has a long shelf life and is slightly thickened in consistency without having to boil it down for a long time.
Depending on your taste, you can reduce the amount of sugar. In this case, the shelf life of the syrup is shortened.
