Choosing fruit for plum liqueur

I made the plum liqueur using prune plums. Alternatively, you can use round plums, as you would for the sour cream plum cake.

The fruit must be ripe, sweet, and fresh. Sort out any plums that are already mushy, for example, for a plum jam. Otherwise, it will be difficult to filter the liqueur at the end.

How to make prune plum liqueur

Use a good quality alcohol

I made the prune plum liqueur with vodka, just like my strawberry liqueur, sloe liqueur, and blackcurrant liqueur. White rum, which I used to make the cornelian cherry liqueur and the vegan egg liqueur, is also ideal for this.

Choose a high-proof, good-quality alcohol, as the taste of your homemade plum liqueur depends on it.

Flavor to taste

I refined the plum liqueur with cinnamon and vanilla. These spices combine perfectly with prune plums in terms of flavor.

Cardamom and cloves also go very well with it. Take a few whole cloves and cardamom seeds.

This homemade prune plum liqueur is

  • fruity,
  • full-bodied,
  • spicy sweet,
  • incredibly delicious,
  • very aromatic,
  • with cinnamon and vanilla,
  • colorful,
  • vegan,
  • ideal for enjoying or giving as a gift, alongside the eggnog,
  • easy to make at home.

How to make plum liqueur: tips and tricks

  • You can use other types of plums instead of prune plums.
  • Use ripe, sweet, fresh fruit for the recipe. They should not be unripe, but also not mushy.
  • You can use white rum instead of vodka. Choose a high-proof, good-quality alcohol.
  • You can adjust the amount of sugar to suit your taste.
  • Instead of cinnamon and vanilla, you can use other spices for flavoring, such as cardamom or cloves.
  • Over time, the liqueur may develop a cloudy sediment, which has no effect on the taste. You can then pour it through a coffee filter for a better appearance.
