Vegan white cabbage patties with 3 main ingredients

All you need for this recipe is white cabbage, flaxseeds and hot water. You also need any spices of your choice and vegetable oil for frying. As always, you will find the quantities and instructions at the end of this post in the recipe box.

White cabbage

It is best to use young white cabbage. This will make the vegan fritters particularly tender.

You should also shred the white cabbage as finely as possible. A coarse grater works very well.

Also try the buckwheat with white cabbage and the Russian pirog with white cabbage.

Flaxseeds and water

Flaxseeds are used as an egg substitute in the recipe, just like in the vegan fish cakes recipe and the carrot fritters recipe. They ensure that the patties mixture binds well. They must be soaked briefly in hot water beforehand.

Spices and herbs to taste

Season the vegan white cabbage patties, just like the buckwheat patties, the pea fritters and the mountain lentil fritters, with spices and herbs of your choice. I used dried oregano, onion and garlic powder and black pepper. You can also use fresh herbs.

How to serve white cabbage patties

With a side dish, the vegan white cabbage patties are perfect as a warm main meal, just like the stewed cabbage. They taste delicious with mashed potatoes, pasta, buckwheat or rice.

If you’re feeling peckish between meals, you can also enjoy the white cabbage fritters cold, just like the cabbage piroshki. They are delicious on their own or with a dip.

Use the squeezed juice

You should not dispose of the juice squeezed from the white cabbage. As it tastes quite salty, it is less suitable for drinking. However, you can use it as a vegetable stock for cooking soups and main dishes, such as the vegetable fried rice.
