Strawberry syrup

Strawberry syrup gives desserts and drinks a fruity-sweet note and spoils you even outside the strawberry season with the taste and aroma of the summer fruits. According to this strawberry syrup recipe, you can make it yourself. It's pretty easy and quick. Besides, you only need three ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 500 g strawberries cleaned
  • 500 g sugar
  • freshly squeezed juice of 1 lemon

Instructions

  • Quarter or halve strawberries and put them in a saucepan.
  • Add lemon juice and sugar to the strawberries, stir and let it steep for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Place the saucepan on the stove, bring the strawberry mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Pour the strawberry mixture through a strainer and catch the liquid in a bowl.
  • Return the strawberry liquid to the saucepan, bring to a boil, and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
  • Take the strawberry syrup off the heat, immediately pour it into sterilized glass bottles and seal them. Let the syrup cool down.

Notes

  • The most delicious and aromatic syrup is made with very ripe and fresh strawberries.
  • You can omit the lemon juice and make the strawberry syrup only from the fruit and sugar.
  • The amount of sugar can be reduced. However, the less sugar you use, the shorter the shelf life of the homemade strawberry syrup.
  • The second boiling of the syrup after straining keeps it longer. If you plan to use the syrup quickly, you don't need to boil it a second time.
