Apple chips

Dried apple rings are really crispy, aromatic and fruity. They are a healthy snack for in between meals and make a perfect gift from the kitchen. You can make your own apple chips with this recipe using just one ingredient. It's easy to do in the oven.
Course Snack, Trifle
Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 5 hours
Servings 4

Ingredients

  • 5 - 6 apples medium sized

Instructions

  • Line several baking sheets (4 in my case) with baking paper.
  • Remove the core and seeds from the apples using an apple corer.
  • Cut the apples into very thin slices.
  • Arrange the apple slices next to each other on the baking sheets so that they do not overlap.
  • Dry the apple rings on the baking sheets in a preheated oven at 212 °F for approx. 5 - 6 hours until crispy, turning the slices occasionally. Leave the oven door ajar for the first two hours or so to allow the moisture to escape. After that, you can close the door and open it briefly several times to let the steam out.

Notes

  • Sweet apple varieties are best suited to make apple chips at home.
  • You can also slice the apples with a vegetable slicer.
  • Instead of baking in the oven, you can dry the apple chips in a dehydrator.
  • You can dust the dried apple rings with cinnamon.
