Refine with nuts

You can add a change of flavor to the hedgehog cake with nuts, just like to the chocolate sausage. Walnut kernels or peanuts, for example, go very well with this.

Roast the nuts in a frying pan or in the oven beforehand and leave them to cool. Then chop them coarsely and mix into the cake mixture.

Quick no-bake hedgehog cake alternative

You can also make this chocolate hedgehog cake quickly without baking. Simply use ready-made butter cookies, just like for the kartoshka made from cookies recipe, instead of preparing the cake base yourself. Crumble them finely and mix them with the cream, just as the recipe says.

You will then have to find the right amount of cookies yourself. Add as much of them to the cake cream until you have a malleable mixture, similar to the classic kartoshka cake, chocolate kartoshka or kartoshka made from rusk.

Decorating the chocolate hedgehog cake

Raisins, poppy seeds and sunflower seeds transform the cake into a real-looking hedgehog. Although it takes a while to place the “spikes”, it is worth it in the end. Not only do they make the cake look great, they also give it a nutty note.

You can also decorate the cake with the Russian mushroom cookies. For a big party, the tree stump cake fits perfectly on the coffee table.

Eye-catcher for kids birthday party

In addition to the turtle cake and the cake “Muraveynik”, the chocolate hedgehog cake is perfect for a kids birthday party. Its appearance is guaranteed to make the little ones’ eyes light up. The cake is also quite large, so it’s big enough for lots of people.
