Soybean milk is the classic plant-based milk alternative. It is perfect for muesli, coffee, baking and drinking on its own. You can make soy milk at home from two main ingredients. You can find a detailed recipe with the exact quantities and step-by-step instructions below.
Popular vegan milk alternative
Soy milk is probably one of the most popular vegan milk alternatives. No wonder, as it can be used in a variety of ways, just like the almond milk or the oat milk.
The soybean milk tastes delicious in coffee and muesli for breakfast. Refined with vanilla, cinnamon, fruits or cocoa powder, you can drink it on its own.
Soy milk is also ideal for baking. Use it for the vegan Napoleon cake, the vegan medovik cake, the vegan applesauce cake, the vegan lemon cake or the vegan banana muffins with chocolate chips, for example.
I also use soy milk to make vegan yogurt, vegan sweetened condensed milk, the Golden Milk and the vegan egg liqueur at home.
It is also perfect for cooking. Try my recipes for the mushroom stroganoff, the cauliflower sauce for pasta or the vegan fish sticks with it.
Which soybeans should I use to make soy milk?
For the soy milk recipe at the end of this article, you will need dried raw soybeans. It is best to use organic soybeans from Europe. In Germany, you can buy them in some grocery stores or online.
Boil raw plant milk
Like many other pulses, raw soybeans contain the toxic substance phasin. This is why you need to boil your homemade soy milk before consuming it. This destroys the toxin. Heating the soy milk for longer also makes it more digestible.
Bring the soybean milk to the boil slowly while stirring to prevent it from burning. Also, do not leave it unattended on the stove so that it does not overflow.
