Vegan no sprats

With sea and smoked flavor without fish

The vegan sprats have the typical taste of the sea and smoke. They are vegan and do not contain any fish. The vegan black caviar and the carrot lox are similar.

The no sprats taste like the sea thanks to nori sheets, which are also used to make sushi. Smoked tofu gives them a smoky taste.

More flavors

You can add various spices to the linseed oil in which they are pickled to give the classic no sprats a change of flavor. For example, smoked paprika, which I used to season my lentil loaf, jackfruit goulash or vegan gravy, goes very well with it.

You can also pour some freshly squeezed lemon juice or a little soy sauce into each jar of vegan sprats along with linseed oil.

How to serve no sprats?

The no sprats taste delicious on freshly baked bread, for example on whole wheat bread or baguette. This makes them perfect for breakfast, as a snack between meals or as a starter. They go well with fresh herbs and vegetables.

Serve the vegan sprats with jacket potatoes as a side dish. This makes for a delicious and special main meal.

The no sprats are also ideal for enhancing salads or main courses. For example, you can use them to prepare the poke bowl.

Who came up with the idea?

Vegan no sprats are produced by the Russian manufacturer of natural plant-based products “Vegan Ivanych”. In Russia, you can buy them in several flavors, including in oil or in tomato sauce. Other Russian brands now also offer vegan sprats.

Vegan sprats made from natural tofu

You can also make the no sprats from natural tofu instead of smoked tofu using this recipe. It just takes a little longer to prepare. This is because you have to marinate the natural tofu first.

Cut it into long pieces and place them in a sealable glass container. Add some soy sauce and smoked salt or liquid smoke. You can also add various spices to taste.

For 200 grams of natural tofu, use around 3 tablespoons of soy sauce and 1 teaspoon of smoked salt or 1 tablespoon of liquid smoke.

Close the glass jar and leave the natural tofu to infuse in the fridge for about an hour, shaking the jar occasionally.

Then wrap the tofu pieces in nori sheets. You can use the marinade to moisten the sheets.
