Why make iced tea at home?
An iced tea is quickly made, tastes much tastier and is healthier than the one from the supermarket. Because you can use only natural ingredients in its preparation and avoid additives.
Moreover, homemade iced tea does not contain excessive amounts of sugar. You determine the amount of sugar yourself. It is possible to use sugar alternatives or prepare the drink without a sweetener, just like the mango lemonade.
To create your favorite iced tea, you can experiment with different fruits, herbs and spices and their quantities.
How to make iced tea – basic recipe
The basic recipe for any type of iced tea is almost identical.
First, prepare a brew of strong tea and then immediately chill it down with ice cubes.
After that, you can sweeten the tea to your liking.
Then, depending on the desired iced tea variety, the tea is refined with lemon juice, fruit pulp and herbs.
With what kind of tea to make iced tea?
For the classic iced tea you use black tea. But you can also use other teas. I have iced tea recipes with green tea, white tea and fruit tea.
If you want to make iced tea for children, you should use fruit or herbal tea. Black tea, green tea or white tea are not suitable for the little ones.
For the iced tea recipes you can use tea bags as well as loose tea.
So that the tea does not taste bitter later, you should brew it in high doses and only briefly. Also, cool the hot tea immediately with ice cubes, so that no bitter substances arise.
Fruits and herbs of your choice
The classics among all varieties are lemon and peach iced tea. Depending on your taste, you can experiment with other fruits. Here below, in addition to the classics, are iced tea recipes with berries, honeydew melon, and lime and mint.
Add fresh lemon, lime or other fruit juice to the tea only after it has cooled. This preserves all the vitamins in the juice.
Add more flavor to your iced tea with various herbs. Mint is particularly popular for this purpose.
Sweeten to taste
You can sweeten your iced tea with a homemade fruit syrup, like the peach iced tea, or with sugar. You decide the amount according to your taste. Add sugar to the tea when it is still hot, so it dissolves faster.
Alternatives to sugar include agave syrup and maple syrup. Sometimes just the sweetness of fruit is enough, as in my honeydew iced tea recipe.
How to store and serve?
Serve your iced tea well chilled. Then it tastes best. Put it in the refrigerator for a few hours and then serve it with ice cubes.
Store homemade iced tea in the refrigerator. Depending on whether you use fresh fruit or a fruit syrup for it, you can store it between about 1 – 3 days.
