What is limonana?

Limonana is a mint lemonade common in Israel. It consists of mint leaves, lemon or lime juice, water, sugar and ice cubes. All ingredients are finely pureed in a blender.

By the way, the name “limonana” is composed of the Hebrew words for lemon and mint.

I made the limonana without sugar. Instead, I sweetened it with agave syrup, just like my raspberry lemonade and basil lemonade.

Alternatively, you can use regular sugar or, like for the strawberry lemonade and watermelon lemonade, brown sugar** in the recipe. Or use maple syrup instead of agave syrup.

You can adjust the amount of sweetener to taste, just like for the rose lemonade, elderflower lemonade or orange lemonade. I sweetened my lemon mint lemonade just slightly so it tasted tart. If you like it sweeter, use more agave syrup.

  • Instead of peppermint you can use another kind of mint.
  • You can replace agave syrup with maple syrup or sugar. Adjust the amount of it to taste.
  • Use a powerful blender suitable for crushing ice cubes.
