Homemade processed cheese spread instead of store-bought

Just like the homemade ryazhenka, sweetened condensed milk, chocolate, lemonade or homemade iced tea, this homemade processed cheese spread tastes much more delicious than supermarket cheese. It is heavenly creamy, tender and smooth.

What’s more, it contains no flavor enhancers, preservatives or colorings. You can make your own processed cheese spread from just five natural ingredients.

And you also decide which quality ingredients you use for the recipe. You can make your own tvorog from organic milk beforehand. It is also best to use organic butter and eggs.

Where can I get tvorog?

To make the processed cheese spread at home, you need Russian farmer’s cheese for my recipe. Many supermarkets now sell tvorog. You can also buy it in Russian stores.

Alternatively, you can easily make your own farmer’s cheese. You only need two ingredients. You can use tvorog for many other recipes, such as the farmer’s cheese pryaniki, ponchiki, tvorog korzhiki, farmer’s cheese piroshki, “Palchiki” or blini filled with tvorog.

Homemade processed cheese spread in different flavors

You can start by making the classic processed cheese and then spice it up with different ingredients. This will give you any flavor you like.

For example, processed cheese spread with mushrooms tastes delicious. Cut the mushrooms into small pieces and fry them in a little vegetable oil, similar to the potato zrazy with mushrooms, pirog with potatoes and mushrooms or lenivye pelmeni. Then mix them with the hot processed cheese as soon as you have removed it from the water bath.

The classic among all varieties is processed cheese with herbs. You can use fresh parsley, as for the herb bread, or fresh dill. Dried herbs are also suitable.

Different spices can also be used to add a variety of flavors to the classic processed cheese spread. Stir in paprika or garlic powder, for example.
